Stubby Amberchuk and the Holy Grail by Anne Cameron
Stubby ... wasn't having an easy childhood in Bright's Crossing, what with the constant struggles between her parents and the absolutely idiotic disputes among both their families about her own fate, which Stubby even at an early age considered her own business and no one else's. Of course after she met old, blind and fabulously wealthy Ada Richardson things began to level out some, but even when she finally got old enough to strike out on her own private quest for the maybe-just-imaginary Holy Grail she was unprepared for the amazing world of magic she was only a tiny part of. Megan ... wasn't lounging around on any bed of roses either. Her parents were together, but they were usually together in the beer parlour. What she found to do in her spare time wan't exactly their idea of a genteel way for their daughter to make her living - in fact, prostitution would have been more acceptable. As the physical and emotional hard knocks of her profession began to take their toll, Megan began to feel she was down for the count. Until one day on the beach near Bright's Crossing she met a most interesting woman, with the strangest little dog.
